With the amount of crocheting I have done, I constantly have a bin full of small balls of leftover yarn. When the bin got full I knew I needed to do something with all of it, but so many of my projects need larger amounts of a majority of their colors.
I started seeing scrap blankets all over the internet, which of course turn out beautiful but aren’t really a project I was interested in doing at the time. I decided instead that I wanted to create a stuffed animal out of those scraps. Thus, Scrappy the Bear was born!
Scrappy the bear is the perfect project for someone relatively new to crochet and/or stuffed animals since it is made completely with single crochet, single crochet two together, and slip stitches.
I started by taking my bin of scrap yarn and tying the ends together using the magic knot technique (using a tutorial from YouTube). Some of the scrap balls were larger than others so I cut those ones into smaller pieces to avoid a large section of one color within the bear. Once I finished tying all of the scraps (or at least what seemed like enough for the project) together, I rolled it into a ball and got started!
I like the look of Scrappy better using white yarn for the bottoms of the hands and feet as well as the muzzle. But if you have enough scrap yarn and like the look with all of the different colors you can create this bear 100% using scraps!
