Octi the Octopus Stuffy

Supplies Needed: 3.75 mm hook, light purple yarn, dark purple yarn, small amounts of black, light blue, and yellow yarn, poly-fil stuffing.

Stitch Abbreviations: sc- single crochet, sc2tog – single crochet two stitches together, inc – 2 single crochet in one stitch, ch – chain, slst – slip stitch, blo – back loop only.

*When a series of stitches are surrounded by * symbols, repeat the series for the specified number of repetitions. If no number of repetitions is specified, repeat for remainder of round.*

Head (light purple yarn)

Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.

Round 2: Inc in each stitch around.

Round 3: *inc, sc 1* (18 stitches)

Round 4: *sc 1, inc, sc 1*

Round 5: *inc, sc 3* (30 stitches)

Round 6: *sc 2, inc, sc 2*

Round 7: *inc, sc 5* (42 stitches)

Round 8 – Round 12: sc around.

Round 13: *sc2tog, sc 5*

Round 14 – Round 17: sc around.

Round 18: *sc2tog, sc 4* (30 stitches)

Round 19 – Round 21: sc around.

Round 22: *sc 2, sc2tog, sc 1*

Round 23 – Round 24: sc around.

Round 25: BLO *sc2tog, sc 2* (18 stitches)

Add stuffing to body, continue adding stuff as you finish closing the bottom.

Round 26: *sc2tog, sc 1*

Round 27: sc2tog around.

Fasten off, use tail to weave in ends and close hole.

Tentacles (light purple yarn, make 4)

Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.

Round 2: inc around.

Round 3: *inc, sc 3* (15 stitches)

Round 4: sc around.

Round 5: *sc 2, inc, sc 2* (18 stitches)

Round 6 – Round 10: sc around.

Round 11: *sc2tog, sc 4*

Round 12 – Round 15: sc around.

Round 16: *sc 2, sc2tog, sc 1* (12 stitches)

Round 17 – Round 19: sc around.

Fasten off first three tentacles, with fourth continue on to tentacle base. Stuff all 4 tentacles.

Tentacle Base

Round 1: flatten tentacle 4, sc 6 to close, *pick up next tentacle, flatten, sc 6 to close* 3 times.

Round 2 – Round 3: sc2tog around (6 stitches after round 3).

Fasten off, weave tail in to close opening. Use another piece of light purple yarn to sew round 1 of base to front loops of head round 25.

Eyes (yellow yarn, make 2)

Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.

Round 2: inc around.

Round 3: *inc, sc 3* (15 stitches)

Fasten off, leave tail for sewing to head

Pupils (black yarn, make 2)

Round 1: magic ring – 4 sc.

Fasten off, sew to the center of the eyes.

Eyelids (dark purple yarn, make 2)

Round 1: ch 4, begin stitches in 2nd chain, inc, sc 1, inc, ch 1, turn.

Round 2: inc, sc 3, inc, ch 1, turn.

Round 3: sc around outer edge.

Fasten off, sew to the head so that they are covering top part of each eye.

Nose (light blue yarn)

Round 1: ch 5, begin stitches in 2nd chain from hook, inc, sc 2, 4 sc in last chain, sc 2, inc.

Round 2: sc around.

Round 3: sc2tog, sc 2, sc2tog 2x, sc 2, sc2tog.

Fasten off, leave tail for sewing just below the eyes.

Hair (dark purple yarn)

Row 1: ch 8, begin stitches in 2nd chain from hook, sc 3, 3 sc in next chain, sc 3.

Fasten off, sew to head so that the curl of the hair lands about 1 row above the eyes.

Hat (dark purple yarn)

Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.

Round 2: inc around.

Round 3: *inc, sc 1* (18 stitches)

Round 4: *sc 1, inc, sc 1*

Round 5: *inc, sc 3*

Round 6: BLO sc around.

Round 7 – Round 8: sc around.

Round 9: *sc2tog, sc 3*

Round 10 – Round 12: sc around.

Round 13: BLO *inc, sc 3*

Round 14: *sc 2, inc, sc 2*

Round 15: *inc, sc 5*

Fasten off, weave in ends. Use another piece of dark purple yarn to tack the hat to the top of Octi’s head.

Tentacle Spots (dark purple yarn, make 9)

Round 1: magic ring – 4 sc.

Round 2: inc around.

Fasten off, leave tail for sewing randomly spaced on tentacles.
