Bring home the fun of Detroit hockey with this adorable Al the Octopus mascot crochet pattern!

For the finishing touch, the logo on Al’s jersey, I had a hard time finding a Red Wings patch that I could purchase in the correct size. So, I made my own using my Silhouette Cameo machine, some white heat transfer vinyl, and red vinyl that was as close to the red of my yarn as possible. I then used a needle and thread to attach it between the front two legs. You could definitely get away with no patch, or search online for a small patch if you don’t have access to these supplies.

Al the Octopus

Dolls can be such a fun project to work on! Every one can be a little bit different. With a good base crochet doll pattern, you can really get creative with making a doll based on a certain person, character, or theme! Today, I’ll share my basic doll body pattern. In the coming weeks, I’ll share different hair, clothing, and accessory options to truly get creative with making your own doll!

I’d love to hear your suggestions on what types of doll accessories you’d like to create!

Doll Base Pattern

I’ve been returning to some of my favorite crochet blogs to make some hats with their patterns, but I’m also coming up with some of my own! Follow along if you have a little love in your life to create a hat for (or if you want to have some fun using up some excess yarn to donate)!

With baby number 2 joining the family soon, our toddler got a room upgrade to her new 90’s-daisy style “big girl” room! With that room transition, we found out exactly how large her stuffed animal collection had grown and decided to really lean into the 90s-nostalgia with a corner toy hammock! She has loved the easy access to run back and forth switching out which of her “babies” she chooses for each nap and bed time. (And we’re loving that we’re seeing less and less stuffed animals all over her floor as she learns to toss them back into the hammock!)

If you grew up in the 90s, you definitely remember the iconic corner toy hammock overflowing with Beanie Babies and your favorite plushies. That colorful net swinging in the corner wasn’t just storage — it was a statement. Today, 90s bedroom decor is making a major comeback, and this free beginner-friendly crochet toy hammock pattern brings all the nostalgic vibes with a handmade twist. Whether you’re channeling retro pastel bedrooms, Y2K aesthetics, or just need a cute way to organize stuffed animals, this easy crochet project is the perfect throwback-meets-functional decor piece for any cozy space.

Then, fold the bag in half so that the handles are overlapping.

Next, fold it in half the same way.

Finally, cut off the bottom seam and the handles, and cut the remaining portion of bag into roughly 1 inch wide strips.

After you have cut up all of the bags (this project will take roughout 45-50 standard sized plastic shopping bags), you will unfold each loop and connect them together.

Now you’re ready to wind the plarn into a ball and crochet!

I choose to finish this bag with a loop at the top to be able to hang it and use it for storage (I collect empty shopping bags in it), you could also add a longer handle to make this into a reusable shopping bag of sorts if you would like instead. *Or check out my other plarn pattern, a reusable shopping bag!
