Moo-ve Over to the Dollar Tree Yarn Section!

I’ve really come to enjoy the Premier Just Chenille Yarn that can be found at Dollar Tree! I’ve created quite a few patterns using it, I especially love the soft and cozy quality that it adds to stuffed animals. Clarence the Cow is one of my favorite creations using this yarn so I wanted to share the pattern with all of you!

Clarence the Cow

Supplies Needed: 3.5 mm hook, white chenille yarn, black chenille yarn, small amounts of tan chenille yarn and peach/pink chenille yarn, 12 mm safety eyes, poly-fil stuffing, small amount of black yarn for embroidering facial features.

Stitch Abbreviations: sc – single crochet, inc – 2 single crochet in the same stitch, BLO – back loop only, sc2tog – single crochet 2 stitches together, ch – chain.

*When a series of stitches is surrounded by * symbols, repeat the series the specified number of times. If no number of times is specified, repeat for the remainder of the round.*

Muzzle (pink/peach yarn)

Round 1: ch 6, begin stitches in 2nd chain from hook, inc, sc 3, 4 sc in last chain, continue working along opposite side of foundation chain, sc 3, inc.

Round 2: inc 2x, sc 3, inc 4x, sc 3, inc 2x

Round 3: sc 2, inc, sc 7, inc, sc 2, inc, sc 7, inc

Round 4 – Round 5: sc around.

Round 6: *sc 2, sc2tog, sc 7, sc2tog*

Fasten off, leave tail for sewing to head.

Horns (tan yarn, make 2)

Round 1: magic ring – 4 sc.

Round 2: *inc, sc 1*

Round 3: sc around.

Round 4: *inc, sc 2*

Round 5: sc around.

Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing to top of head.

Head (white yarn)

Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.

Round 2: inc in each stitch around.

Round 3: *inc, sc 1* (18 stitches)

Round 4: *sc 1, inc, sc 1*

Round 5: *inc, sc 3* (30 stitches)

Round 6: sc around.

Round 7: *sc 2, inc, sc 2*

Round 8: *inc, sc 5* (42 stitches)

Round 9 – Round 15: sc around.

Insert safety eyes between rounds 9 and 10, leaving 4 stitches between them.

Round 16: *sc2tog, sc 5*

Round 17: *sc 2, sc2tog, sc 2* (30 stitches)

Round 18: *sc2tog, sc 3*

Round 19: *sc 1, sc2tog, sc 1* (18 stitches)

Round 20: *sc2tog, sc 1*

Fasten off, weave in ends. Sew horns to the top of head at about round 3 with a small amount of stuffing inside. Sew muzzle onto head, centered under eyes, at about round 12, adding stuffing as you sew.

Arms (black yarn, make 2)

Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.

Round 2: inc around.

Round 3: *inc, sc 1* (18 stitches)

Round 4: *sc 3, inc, sc 2*

Round 5: BLO sc around.

Round 6 – Round 7: sc around.

Change to white yarn.

Round 8: *sc2tog, sc 5*

Round 9 – Round 10: sc around.

Round 11: *sc2tog, sc 4*

Round 12 – Round 13: sc around.

Round 14: *sc2tog, sc 3*

Round 15 – Round 16: sc around.

Add stuffing, more stuffing at bottom of the leg, light stuffing toward the top.

Round 17: flatten round 16 so that the front and back of the arm is touching, create stitches through both sides at the same time to close the arm, sc2tog, sc 2, sc2tog.

Fasten off, weave in ends to prepare for attaching to body.

Ears (black yarn, make 2)

Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.

Round 2: sc around.

Round 3: *inc, sc 1*

Round 4 – Round 5: sc around.

Round 6: *sc2tog, sc 2*

Round 7: flatten round 6 so that the front and back of the ear is touching then pinch so that the top and bottom of the ear come together, create stitches through all sides to create a curved ear look, sc 3.

Fasten off, leave tail for sewing to head between rounds 7 and 8.

Legs/Body (black yarn)

Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.

Round 2: inc around.

Round 3: *inc, sc 1* (18 stitches)

Round 4: *sc 3, inc, sc 2*

Round 5: BLO sc around.

Round 6 – Round 7: sc around.

Change to white yarn.

Round 8: *sc2tog, sc 5*

Round 9 – Round 10: sc around.

Round 11: *sc2tog, sc 4*

Round 12: sc around.

Fasten off leg 1, repeat same pattern for leg 2. Continue on with leg 2.

Round 13: ch 3, pick up leg 1 begin stitches on this leg, place stitch marker, sc around leg 1, in each chain, leg 2, and the back of each chain. (36 stitches)

Round 14 – Round 15: sc around.

Stuff the legs.

Round 16: *sc2tog, sc 4* (30 stitches)

Round 17 – Round 19: sc around.

Round 20: *sc2tog, sc 3*

Round 21 – Round 23: sc around.

Begin stuffing, continue stuffing as you finish the body.

Round 24: sc 3, grab arm 1, sc 4 connecting arm and body together, sc 8, grab arm 2, sc 4 connecting arm and body together, sc 5.

Round 25: *sc2tog, sc 2*

Round 26: sc around.

Round 27: *sc2tog, sc 4*

Fasten off. Leave tail for sewing body and head together, add stuffing as you sew.

Spots (Black yarn, make 3)

Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.

Round 2: inc around.

Round 3: *inc, sc 1* (18 stitches)

Round 4: *inc 2x, sc 4*

Fasten off, leave tail for sewing randomly around body. I like to pin them in place so that I can easily move them around until I find what looks best.
