
Supplies: 4.0 mm hook, Red Heart Super Saver in “Tealeaf”, “Cafe Latte”, black yarn, charcoal yarn, lighter gray yarn, orange yarn, 9 mm safety eyes (I used green eyes), poly-fil stuffing.
Stitch Abbreviations Used: sc – single crochet, bobble – 4 double crochets grouped together in the same stitch, sc2tog – single crochet two stitches together, hdc2tog – half double crochet two stitches together, ch – chain, spike – spike stitch, FLO – front loop only, BLO – back loop only.
Arms (make 2, tealeaf yarn)
Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.
Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around.
Round 3: sc in each stitch around.
Round 4: bobble, sc next 11. (12 stitches)
Round 5: *sc2tog, sc next stitch* repeat around. (9 stitches)
Change to charcoal yarn.
Round 6 – Round 13: sc in each stitch around.
Round 14: stuff hand and arm lightly, pinch top of arm to flatten it closed. Work stitches through front and back of arm to permanently close, sc2tog, sc next 2.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Legs (make 2, black yarn)
Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.
Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around.
Round 3: *2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next* repeat around.
Round 4: *sc 1, 2 sc in next stitch, sc 1* repeat around. (24 stitches)
Round 5: BLO sc in each stitch around.
Round 6: sc first 3 stitches, hdc2tog 3 times, sc next 9.
Round 7: sc first 3 stitches, sc2tog 3 times, sc next 9. (15 stitches)
Change to cafe latte yarn.
Round 8: BLO sc around.
Round 9 – Round 15: sc in each stitch around.
Fasten off leg 1, repeat to create leg 2 but do not fasten off. When round 15 of leg 2 is completed, continue to body/head section.
Body/Head (cafe latte yarn)
Round 1: ch 1, place stitch marker and line up the legs next to each other, begin stitches in leg 1, sc 32 around both legs (with one stitch each in the front and back of the ch 1 space).
Round 2 – Round 4: sc in each stitch around.
Round 5: *sc2tog, sc next 14* repeat around. (30 stitches)
Change to charcoal yarn.
Round 6: BLO sc in each stitch around.
Round 7 – Round 8: sc in each stitch around.
Round 9: *sc2tog, sc next 8* repeat around. (27 stitches)
Round 10 – Round 11: sc in each stitch around.
Round 12: *sc2tog, sc next 7* repeat around. (24 stitches)
Round 13: sc in each stitch around.
Begin tightly stuffing the legs.
Round 14: sc each of the first 5 stitches, holding arm up to the body so that the bobble stitch is pointing in the same direction as the feet, sc 3 stitches you will stitch through both the arm and the body at the same time to connect them, sc next 9, hold the remaining arm to the body in the same manner, sc 3 stitches to connect arm and body, sc remaining 4 stitches of round.
Round 15: *sc2tog, sc next 2* repeat around. (18 stitches)
Round 16: *sc2tog, sc next 4* repeat around. (15 stitches)
Change to tealeaf yarn.
Round 17: BLO *2 sc in first stitch, sc next 4* repeat around. (18 stitches)
Round 18: *2 sc first stitch, sc next 2* repeat around.
Round 19: *sc first 2, 2 sc in next stitch, sc next stitch* repeat around. (30 stitches)
Round 20: *2 sc in first stitch, sc next 4* repeat around. (36 stitches)
Round 21: *sc first 2, 2 sc in next, sc next stitch, 2 sc in following stitch* repeat around.
Round 22: *2 sc in first stitch, sc next 6* repeat around. (48 stitches)
Stuff body.
Round 23 – Round 31: sc in each stitch around.
Attach safety eyes between rounds 28 and 29, 5 stitch apart.
Round 32: sc first 24, FLO sc next 11, sc remaining 13 through both loops.
Round 33: sc in each stitch around.
Round 34: sc first 24 stitches, sc next 11 going through loops of round 33 and BLO of round 32, sc remaining 13 stitches as normal.
Round 35: sc in each stitch around.
Change to black yarn.
Round 36: *sc first 2, spike* repeat around.
Round 37: BLO *sc2tog, sc next 6* repeat around.
Round 38: *sc2tog, sc next 5* repeat around. (36 stitches)
Stuff head, paying extra attention that the next area is stuff tightly. Continue adding stuffing as you work.
Round 39: *sc first 2, sc2tog, sc next 2* repeat around.
Round 40: *sc2tog, sc next 3* repeat around. (24 stitches)
Round 41: *sc first stitch, sc2tog, sc next stitch* repeat around.
Round 42: sc2tog around. (9 stitches)
Fasten off, use tail to close remaining stitches and then weave in ends.
Ears (make 2, tealeaf yarn)
Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.
Round 2: *2 sc in first stitch, sc each of the next 2* repeat around. (8 stitches)
Round 3: sc around.
Fasten off, leave tail for sewing to sides of head. Pinch into flat half circle and sew to head between rounds 26 and 28.
Neck Bolts (make 2, gray yarn)
Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.
Round 2: *2 sc in first stitch, sc next 2* repeat around. (8 stitches)
Round 3: BLO sc around.
Round 4: sc2tog around. (4 stitches)
Round 5: sc in each stitch around.
Fasten off, leave tail for sewing to sides of head between rounds 18 and 19.
Treat Bag (orange yarn)
Round 1: ch 9, begin stitches in 2nd chain from hook, 2 sc in chain, sc in each of the next 6, 4 sc in last chain, turn to continue working along the opposite side of the foundation chain, sc next 6, 2 sc in last.
Round 2 – Round 10: sc in each stitch around.
Round 11: ch 12, skip 12 stitches, slst.
Fasten off, weave in ends. Using black yarn or embroidery floss, embroider a jack-o-lantern face onto the bag.
