Crochet Some Colorful Fun with Ruby the Rainbow Moose!

Amigurumi.com hosts a super fun design contest every once in a while and this year’s theme is Rainbows! I’ve created 2 designs of the contest’s over 300 amazing entries and would love it if you’d head to the link here to cast your votes for your 10 favorite designs!

Without further ado, I introduce Ruby the Rainbow Moose! Be sure to check back here later this week for the pattern of my other entry, Rainy Day Remi!

Supplies: 3.25mm hook, cafe latte yarn, mushroom yarn, off white yarn, small amounts of your choice of 6 rainbow color yarns, 12 mm safety eyes, poly-fil stuffing.

Stitch Abbreviations: sc – single crochet, ch – chain, sc2tog – single crochet two together, hdc2tog – half double crochet two together, BLO – back loop only.

Head (cafe latte yarn)

Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.

Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around.

Round 3: *2 sc in first stitch, sc in next* repeat * to * around.

Round 4: *sc in first stitch, 2 sc in next, sc in next stitch* repeat * to * around. (24 stitches)

Round 5: *2 sc in first stitch, sc each of the next 3* repeat * to * around.

Round 6: *sc 2, 2 sc in next stitch, sc each of the next 2* repeat * to * around. (36 stitches)

Round 7: sc around.

Round 8: *2 sc in first stitch, sc next 5* repeat * to * around. (42 stitches)

Round 9 – Round 13: sc around.

Add 12 mm safety eyes between rounds 10 and 11 with 5 stitches in between.

Round 14: sc first 14, *2 sc, sc next 3* repeat 3 times, sc next 2, *sc, 2 sc* repeat * to * 3 times, sc last 14.

Round 15: sc first 14, *sc, 2 sc, sc* repeat * to * 3 times, sc next 2, repeat * to * 3 times, sc last 14.

Round 16 – Round 19: sc around.

Round 20: *sc2tog, sc next 7* repeat * to * around.

Round 21: *sc first 2, sc2tog, sc next 2* repeat * to * around.

Begin stuffing head.

Round 22: *sc2tog, sc next 3* repeat * to * around.

Round 23: *sc first stitch, sc2tog, sc next stitch* repeat * to * around.

Round 24: sc2tog around.

Fasten off, finish stuffing and weave in ends.

Snout (cafe latte yarn)

Round 1: ch 6, begin stitches in 2nd chain from hook, 2 sc in first chain, sc next 3, 4 sc in final chain, turn to continue working along opposite side of foundation chain, sc next 3, 2 sc in final chain (14 stitches)

Round 2: 2 sc in each of the first 2 stitches, sc next 3, 2 sc in each of the next 4 stitches, sc 3,2 sc in each of the last 2 stitches.

Round 3: 2 sc each of the first 3

Nostrils (make 2, cafe latte yarn)

Row 1: ch 5, begin stitches in 2nd chain from hook, sc 4.

Fasten off, sew onto snout at round 5 leaving space between them. Bunch the nostrils slightly as you sew so that they appear curved.

Ears (make 2, cafe latte yarn)

Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.

Round 2: sc around.

Round 3: *2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next* repeat * to * around. (9 stitches)

Round 4: *sc first stitch, 2 sc in next, sc in following stitch* repeat * to * around.

Round 5: sc around.

Round 6: *2 sc in first stitch, sc each of the next 3* repeat * to * around. (15 stitches)

Round 7 – Round 8: sc around.

Round 9: *sc2tog, sc next 3* repeat * to * around.

Round 10: flatten the ear, pinch the top of round 9 toward the bottom then complete stitches through all to create the final pinched appearance, sc 3.

Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing to the head at round 10.

Antlers (make 2, mushroom yarn)

Round 1: ch 6, begin stitches in 2nd chain from hook, 2 sc in first stitch, sc next 3, 4 sc in final chain, turn to continue working along opposite side of foundation chain, sc next 3, 2 sc in final stitch.

Round 2: 2 sc in first stitch, sc next 5, 2 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, sc next 5, 2 sc in final stitch of round. (18 stitches)

Round 3: 2 sc in each of the first 2 stitches, sc next 6, 2 sc in each of the next 3 stitches, sc next 6, 2 sc in last stitch.

Round 4 – Round 6: sc around.

Round 7: sc first 8 stitches, hdc2tog 5 times, sc last 6 stitches.

Round 8: sc first 6 stitches, hdc2tog 4 times, sc last 5 stitches.

Round 9: sc first 5, sc2tog 4 times, sc last 2 stitches. (11 stitches)

Round 10 – Round 17: sc around.

Fasten off, leave tail for sewing onto head after adding 1 antler bump to each antler. Sew finished antler to head beginning at round 6.

Antler Bumps (make 2, mushroom yarn)

Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.

Round 2: *2 sc in first stitch, sc next 2* repeat * to * around. (8 stitches)

Round 3 – Round 4: sc around.

Fasten off, leave tail for sewing onto each antler.

Arms (make 2, mushroom yarn)

Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.

Round 2: 2 sc around.

Round 3: *2 sc first stitch, sc in next* repeat * to * around. (18 stitches)

Round 4: *sc in first stitch, 2 sc next stitch, sc in next* repeat * to * around.

Round 5: * 2 sc in first stitch, sc next 7* repeat * to * around. (27 stitches)

Round 6: BLO sc around.

Round 7: sc around.

Round 8: *sc2tog, sc next 7* repeat * to * around. (24 stitches)

Round 9: sc around.

Change to cafe latte yarn.

Round 10: sc first 3, sc2tog, sc next 3* repeat * to * around. (21 stitches)

Round 11 – Round 12: sc around.

Round 13: *sc2tog, sc next 5 * repeat * to * around. (18 stitches)

Round 14 – Round 15: sc around.

Round 16: sc first 2, sc2tog, sc next 2* repeat * to * around. (15 stitches)

Round 17 – Round 18: sc around.

Round 19: *sc2tog, sc 3* repeat * to * around. (12 stitches)

Round 20: sc around.

Round 21: stuff the arm lightly, flatten round 20 so that the opening is closed, complete stitches through both sides at the same time to close in a straight line, sc 4.

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Legs (make 2, mushroom yarn)

Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.

Round 2: 2 sc around.

Round 3: *2 sc first stitch, sc in next* repeat * to * around. (18 stitches)

Round 4: *sc in first stitch, 2 sc next stitch, sc in next* repeat * to * around.

Round 5: * 2 sc in first stitch, sc next 7* repeat * to * around. (27 stitches)

Round 6: BLO sc around.

Round 7: sc around.

Round 8: *sc2tog, sc next 7* repeat * to * around. (24 stitches)

Round 9: sc around.

Change to cafe latte yarn.

Round 10: sc first 3, sc2tog, sc next 3* repeat * to * around. (21 stitches)

Round 11 – Round 12: sc around.

Round 13: *sc2tog, sc next 5 * repeat * to * around. (18 stitches)

Round 14 – Round 15: sc around.

Round 16: sc first 2, sc2tog, sc next 2* repeat * to * around. (15 stitches)

Round 17 – Round 18: sc around.

Fasten off leg 1, set aside. Repeat rounds for leg 2 and continue to body without fastening off.

Body

Round 1: ch 3, place stitch marker, begin stitches in leg 1, sc 15 around leg 1, sc in each of the 3 chains, sc 15 around leg 2, sc in back of each of the 3 chains. (36 stitches)

Round 2: *sc first 3, 2 sc in next stitch, sc each of the next 2* repeat * to * around. (42 stitches)

Round 3 – Round 4: sc around.

Change to off-white yarn. Begin stuffing legs.

Round 5 – Round 6: sc around.

Round 7: BLO sc around.

Round 8: *sc2tog, sc next 5* repeat * to * around. (36 stitches)

Round 9 – Round 10: sc around.

Round 11: *sc first 2, sc2tog, sc next 2* repeat * to * around.

Continue stuffing body.

Round 12 – Round 13: sc around.

Round 14: *sc2tog, sc next 3* repeat * to * around. (24 stitches)

Round 15 – Round 16: sc around.

Round 17: *sc2tog, sc next 6* repeat * to * around.

Round 18: sc around.

Round 19: sc first 3, hold an arm up to the body and complete next set of stitches through both arm and body to connect the two, sc 4, sc next 7 of body only, hold other arm up to the body and complete next set of stitches through both arm and body to connect the two, sc 4, sc in last 3 stitches of body only. (24 stitches)

Round 20: *sc2tog, sc 6* repeat * to * around.

Round 21: *sc2tog, sc 5* repeat * to * around. (18 stitches)

Change to cafe latte yarn.

Round 22: BLO sc around.

Fasten off, leave tail for sewing to head. Finish stuffing.

Rainbow Shirt Applique (purple yarn)

Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc, ch 1, turn.

Change to blue yarn.

Round 2: sc 6 across, ch 1, turn.

Change to green yarn.

Round 3: *2 sc in first stitch, sc in next* repeat * to * across, ch 1, turn.

Change to yellow yarn.

Round 4: sc 9 across, ch 1, turn.

Change to orange yarn.

Round 5: *sc first stitch, 2 sc in next, sc in following stitch* repeat * to * around. (12 stitches)

Change to red yarn.

Round 6: sc across.

Fasten off, weave in ends and then sew onto body with the bottom touching round 10.

Rainbow Skirt (red yarn)

Round 1: attach yarn to unworked front loops of body at round 7, 2 hdc in each stitch around.

Change to orange yarn.

Round 2: *2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next* repeat * to * around.

Change to yellow yarn.

Round 3: hdc around.

Change to green yarn.

Round 4: hdc around.

Change to blue yarn.

Round 5: hdc around.

Change to purple yarn.

Round 6: hdc around.

Fasten off, weave in ends.
