Velvet yarn is great for creating soft and cozy stuffed animals! This alpaca is especially fun with the loop stitches to create extra soft hair on top of his head. A perfect gift for a little one who loves to snuggle stuffed animals!

Supplies Needed: 4.0 mm hook, velvet yarn (I used mushroom), cream yarn, small amounts of white, tan, and dark brown yarn, 12 mm safety eyes, poly-fil stuffing.
Stitches/Abbreviations Used: sc – single crochet, loop – loop stitch, ch – chain, sc2tog – single crochet two together, blo – back loop only.
Head/Body (velvet yarn)
Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc
Round 2: 2 loop stitches in each stitch around.
Round 3: *2 loop in first stitch, 1 loop in next stitch*
Round 4: *2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches.*
Round 5: *2 loop in first stitch, 1 loop in each of the next 3 stitches.*
Round 6: *2 loop in first stitch, 1 loop in each of the next 4 stitches* slst to first stitch of round.
Round 7: ch 1, turn, sc in each stitch around.
Round 8 – Round 13: sc in each stitch around.
Round 14: *sc2tog, 1 sc in each of the next 4*
Insert safety eyes between rounds 9 and 10, 3 stitches apart.
Round 15: *1 sc in each of the next 2, sc2tog, 1 sc in next stitch*
Round 16: *sc2tog, 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches.*
Round 17: *sc2tog, 1 sc in each of the next 4 stitches*
Stuff head.
Round 18 – Round 29: sc in each stitch around.
Round 30: ch 13, begin stitches in 2nd chain from hook, sc 38 in chains, around next of alpaca, and in opposite side of chains, 2 sc in last chain.
Round 31: 2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in each of the next 4 stitches*
Round 32 – Round 39: sc in each stitch around.
Begin stuffing the neck.
Round 40: *sc2tog, 1 sc in each of the next 4 stitches*
Round 41: sc in each stitch around.
You will now begin creating the legs.
Round 42: sc 10, leave remaining stitches of the round unworked.
Round 43: sc around (10 stitches).
Change to cream yarn.
Round 44: BLO sc in each stitch around.
Round 45 – Round 49: sc in each stitch around.
Round 50: sc2tog around. (5 stitches)
Fasten off. Join velvet yarn on next unworked stitch of round 41, then repeat rounds 42-50 to create the other legs.
Snout (cream yarn)
Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.
Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around.
Round 3: *2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in each of the next 3 stitches* (15 stitches)
Round 4 – Round 5: sc around.
Fasten off, leave tail for sewing to head between rounds 10-12.
Ears (make 2 with velvet yarn)
Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc.
Round 2: *2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next*
Round 3: *2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches* (12 stitches)
Round 4 – Round 6: sc in each stitch around.
Round 7: *sc2tog, 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches* (9 stitches)
Round 8: flatten ear, pinch ends together, sc 3 through all layers to close the ear.
Fasten off, leave tail for sewing to head between rounds 7 and 8.
Blanket (beginning with white yarn)
Round 1: ch 13, begin stitches in 2nd chain from hook, sc each of the next 11 chains, 3 sc in final chain, continue stitches along back of foundation chain, sc each of the next 10 stitches, 2 sc in final stitch.
Change to tan yarn.
Round 2: 2 sc in first stitch, sc in each of the next 10, 2 sc in each of the next 3 stitches, sc in each of the next 10, 2 sc in each of the final 2 stitches.
Change to dark brown yarn.
Round 3: *2 sc in one stitch, 1 sc in next* 1 time, sc in each of the next 10 stitches, repeat * to * 3 times, sc in each of the next 10 stitches, repeat * to * 2 times.
Change to white yarn.
Round 4: *2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in each of the next 2* 1 time, 1 sc in each of the next 10 stitches, repeat * to * 3 times, 1 sc in each of the next 10 stitches, repeat * to * 2 times.
Fasten off, weave in ends, add tassels of each color to each rounded end of the blanket and tack the middle of the blanket onto the back of the alpaca.
