Cotton yarn has so many great uses! One of my favorites is to make quick and easy dishcloths!

To add a little extra scrubbing power to this cloth, I worked some of the half double crochet stitches into the third loop instead of just working in back and forth rows as usual.

Third Loop Only Half Double Crochet

Working in the third loop of half double crochet stitches creates a beautiful detail that just so happen to add a little texture to the dish cloth to help with scrubbing.

Third Loop Only Half Double Crochet Dish Cloth

Supplies Needed: 4.0 mm hook, cotton yarn, yarn needle.

Stitch Abbreviations: ch – chain, hdc – half double crochet, TLO hdc – third loop only half double crochet.

Pattern:

Row 1: ch 32, begin stitches in 3rd chain from hook, hdc in each chain across, turn.

Row 2: ch 2 (does not count as a stitch here or throughout), hdc across, turn.

Row 3: ch 2, TLO hdc across, turn.

Row 4 – Row 19: repeat rows 2 and 3.

Row 20: ch 2, hdc across.

Fasten off, weave in ends.

For me, this pattern created a dishcloth that is approximately 7.25 inches by 7.5 inches. If that size isn’t quite right for you, the good news is that this pattern is super easy to adapt to make bigger or smaller. Want the final cloth to be wider? Add some stitches to your starting chain! Want the cloth to be longer? Keep repeating rows 2 and 3 until you get to your desired size and finish off with row 20! Easy-peasy, adaptable, and functional!
