Did you know that you can easily make a super simple, quick, cleaning or dish scrubby with just a couple of plastic shopping bags and a crochet hook?! First, if you’ve never made plarn before, or just need a refresher, check out my quick easy rundown on how to make plarn.
Being that this project is so small, you only need about 2 shopping bags per scrubby you want to make. But, you can always make a bigger scrubby by using more bags and continuing to add stitches in each round!
This project is perfect for tough to clean items that you don’t want to risk scratching up with a rougher cleaning surface, or for those items that you need to get cleaned but wouldn’t want to use the sponge/scrubby again after.
Not into using plarn?
I’ve also followed the same pattern using cotton yarn and scrubby yarn! Hold one strand of each type of yarn together and follow along with the pattern.
Plarn Dish/Cleaning Scrubby

Supplies Needed: small amount of plarn, 6.5 mm crochet hook, tapestry needle.
Stitch Abbreviations Used: ch – chain, slst – slip stitch, sc – single crochet, dc – double crochet.
Pattern
Round 1: magic ring – 6 sc, slst to first stitch of round.
Round 2 – Round 3: ch 2 (does not count as a stitch), 2 dc in each stitch around, slst to first dc of round. (24 stitches)
Round 4: ch 1(does not count as a stitch), 2 sc in each stitch around, slst to first sc of round. (48 stitches)
Fasten off, use a tapestry needle or your crochet hook to weave in the ends.
Need a bigger scrubby?
Continue adding increases each round to make the scrubby your desired size. Personally, I would continue with the double crochet rounds and leave the single crochet round to be my final round.
For example:
Round 4: ch 2, *2 dc in first stitch, 1 dc in next* repeat * to * around, slst to first dc of round.
Round 5: ch 2, *2 dc in first stitch, dc in each of the next 2* repeat * to * around, slst to first dc of round.
Continue on with this pattern, adding one stitch to the end of the repeated pattern in each additional round until you get close to your desired size. Then, I would complete a final round of single crochet stitches following the same pattern.
What will you use your new cleaning scrubby for?
